Innovation in the elderly care sector: at the edge of chaos

As the elderly care sector in an ageing society is characterized by several challenges (such as increasing and changing needs, personnel challenges and financial challenges), new policy strategies and rethought and restructured organizations and institutions are necessary. The elderly care sector is thus in need for innovation, but research in this domain is rather limited.

Therefore, this study aimed to:

  1. define innovation in the elderly care context
  2. identify innovative opportunities in and outside Flanders
  3. provide insight into preconditions for innovation.

This research report aims to stimulate elderly care actors to reflect about traditional innovation and change ideas and experiment on the basis of the new insights within this report.
