China International Cartoon and Animation Festival: Golden Monkey King Awards

The 2019 Golden Monkey King Awards is an optimal platform for tapping talents and the hidden values of the emerging cartoon and animation industry. The competition is classified under two major categories: the General Awards and the Promising Awards. We are keen to collect the world’s most cutting-edge, appealing and important animations to participate in our competition.

 

What is CICAF?

CICAF is the only state-level professional cartoon and animation festival in China. Sponsored by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, this annual event had been held in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province since 2005.

Past editions

  • 1 main venue and 10 branch venues,
  • 1,4335 million visitors,
  • including 362,800 to the White Horse Lake Animation Plaza,
  • 55 activities and events,
  • 2,641 companies and institutions from 85 countries and regions,
  • signing contracts or cooperation intentions for 1,291 projects, with a total turnover of 13,835 billion RMB (USD 2,486 billion).

Submissions requirements

The General Awards

Those entries that have not submitted to the previous Golden Monkey King Awards will be welcomed to participate in the 2019 edition. Other requirements are:

  • Animated Film: productions (domestic & overseas) will have obtained the “License for Public Projection of Films” issued by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film & Television (National Radio and Television Administration )by the time of March 1, 2017
  • Animated Series: productions (domestic) will have obtained the Domestic TV Animated Series Distribution License issued by the provincial authority or have been officially released in China mainland by/before the time of March 1, 2017
  • Animated Short Film: Films produced by animation companies, studios, college teachers and students could sign up for either the General Award or the Promising Award
  • Comics: entries (domestic and overseas) will have been officially published before March 1, 2019

The Promising Awards

Those entries that have not submitted to the previous Golden Monkey King Awards will be welcomed to participate in the 2019 edition. Other requirements are:

  • Animated Short Film (domestic and overseas) that has already finished
  • Comic (domestic and overseas) that has not been officially published

Submission materials

The General Awards

1. Animated film

  • Any entry shall be submitted in any of the following formats: MOV, AVI, or MPEG with 1920*1080 PX (general compression code of H.264). Chinese and English subtitles are needed
  • A 30-second trailer shall be submitted in any of the following formats: MOV, AVI, or MPEG with 1920*1080 PX (general compression code of H.264)
  • Official description of the first round cinema box office with company seal or signature
  • License for Public Projection of Films copy
  • A digital registration form, 1 color photo of the director or the cartoonist (7 inches above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 5 screenshots (8*10 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 1-2 posters (6*8 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format)
  • A printout and signed or stamped registration form shall be mailed together with the entry

2. Animated series

  • 2 or more episodes shall be submitted in any of the following formats: MOV, AVI, or MPEG with 720*576 PX (general compression code of H.264); Chinese & English subtitles are needed
  • A 30-second trailer shall be submitted in any of the following formats: MOV, AVI, or MPEG with no less than 720*576 PX (general compression code of H.264)
  • Domestic TV Animated Series Distribution License copy or public release description document issued by China domestic TV channels
  • A digital registration form, 1 color photo of the director or the cartoonist (7 inches above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 5 screenshots (8*10 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 1-2 posters (6*8 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format)
  • A printout and signed or stamped registration form shall be mailed together with the entry

3. Animated film

  • Any entry shall be submitted in any of the following formats: MOV, AVI, or MPEG with 1920*1080 PX (general compression code of H.264); Chinese & English subtitles are needed

  • A complete comic offprint.
  • A digital registration form, 1 color photo of the director or the cartoonist (7 inches above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 5 screenshots (8*10 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 1-2 posters (6*8 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format)
  • A printout and signed or stamped registration form shall be mailed together with the entry

The Promising Awards

1. Animated film

  • Any entry shall be submitted in any of the following formats: MOV, AVI, or MPEG with 720*576 PX (general compression code of H.264)
  • A 30-second trailer shall be submitted in any of the following formats: MOV, AVI, or MPEG with 720*576 PX (general compression code of H.264)
  • A digital registration form, 1 color photo of the director or the cartoonist (7 inches above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 5 screenshots (8*10 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 1-2 posters (6*8 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format)
  • A printout and signed or stamped registration form shall be mailed together with the entry

2. Comics

  • All entries shall be absolutely original (copy, adaptation, replication or imitation is prohibited)
  • 20+ illustrations (JPG format, 7 inches above; 300dpi)
  • A complete script
  • A digital registration form, 1 color photo of the author (7 inches above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 5 screenshots (8*10 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format); 1-2 posters (6*8 cm above, 300 dpi, and jpg format)
  • A printout and signed or stamped registration form shall be mailed together with the entry

Submit your works

  • You may opt in to submit your film files electronically via email or online drive. Please provide us with the link of the submission with password if you submit it via online drive, such as baidupan (https://pan.baidu.com/download), Vimeo or dropbox.
  • You may also opt in to send your work by post using DVD or USB drive.   • Final assessment: April 24 — 26, 2019
  • Award ceremony: April 30 — May 5, 2019
